Vintage Photos

In January 2011, I started what has turned into a massive project to scan, restore, and digitally archive my grandparents’ slide collection.

My grandfather was in the Army, and he and his family were stationed all over the world during his career. They visited a number of iconic destinations in an era before mass tourism had changed local cultures to the degree they have been today.

As of February 2011, I have completed scanning all the slides I could find in my grandparents’ house. Altogether, there are nearly 3,000 images in the collection, many of which require significant Photoshop attention to correct fading, remove dust and scratches, etc. I have been publishing sets of photos to a collection on Flickr as I finish them, and blogging about them here whenever I get a chance. I don’t know how long it’s going to take me to completely finish the project, but my plan is to burn CDs for family members as soon as it’s done.

Until then, below is the list of blog posts to date about the project. You can also keep an eye on Flickr for updates.
